The EMA Research Committee seeks to provide our membership with scientific information relevant to elephant management and conservation, and to provide guidance and expertise in elephant research.
Goals & Activities:
Goal 1: Share elephant research information with EMA members, presented in a way that highlights its relevance to in-situ and/or ex-situ elephant management or conservation and can be effectively communicated to other elephant managers and the public.
Activities include articles in JEMA and announcements in Gray Matters.
Goal 2: Promote elephant research successes and activities of EMA members, both past and present.
Activities include compiling a list of research projects that EMA members and facilities have been involved with, and highlighting the the expertise within our community and the contribution of our elephants and managers.
Goal 3: Help facilitate participation in proposed and ongoing research projects.
Activities include helping our EMA members develop ideas and design new research projects, and compiling a list of the current research projects and outstanding biomaterials requests.
Goal 4: Provide guidance and expertise in elephant research directly applicable to elephant management.
Activities include the vetting of scientific proposals, and exploring ways to use various monitoring tools.
