The EMA Husbandry Committee seeks to provide the EMA membership with up to date husbandry information. We focus on the husbandry needs of newborns calves to geriatric adults and everything in between. We hope to encourage an open forum where members can share information regarding elephant husbandry and the most common practices when it comes to caring for elephants.
We are currently working on our Husbandry Data Base to allow every member to be able to find husbandry tools, what the cost is and what other members think about those tools. We have also written articles for JEMA about husbandry aspects. We have had an article in every JEMA this year.
This year the Husbandry committee is going to not only be working on increasing our Husbandry Data Base, but we are also going to focus on writing articles that pertain to husbandry. We are hoping to send out private surveys to other facilities and find out the most common way a bath is given, how foot work is done and so on. We then will publish these findings in JEMA.
Do you want to be apart of an exciting new project? The husbandry committee is expanding to encompass more husbandry issues under one banner. We are looking for members with a fresh perspective, opinions or solid ideas to share information regarding all aspects of husbandry and medical care from newborns to geriatrics.
