Our committee within the EMA is all about sharing information covering the broad topic of enrichment. It is important to us that we discuss the basic practice of enrichment to the most scientific concepts that surround this profound management tool in elephant care. Enrichment is an ever evolving process that can be very technical in its applications but also extremely creative. The repertoire of enrichment in elephant programs across the globe is fascinating and dynamic which fuels the heart and soul of this committee. We strive to provide helpful tips and tidbits you may need to start, enhance or even improve the enrichment practices you use. Our committee comes directly to you, the EMA membership and is here to act as a resource.
Our committee is responsible for the E-Spot column within the EMA’s flagship publication, JEMA and provides information on current trends and practices in enrichment. For the last few years we have conducted enrichment based workshops at the annual EMA conferences which have created enrichment devices for the hosting institution’s elephants. We also have begun our Enrichment database accessible to our members at: http://elephantmanagers.com/members-only-portal/ema-enrichment-database.
We are always looking for proactive and passionate individuals who like to share their enrichment ideas, stories and successes with our membership. If you are interested in joining or contributing to the Behavioral Enrichment Committee please contact us at email@example.com. We look forward to hearing from you! Now go out there, be creative and have fun with enrichment!!
